- Familiarize yourself with basic anatomical terminology, gaining competence with the anatomical references most used to teach public yoga classes.
- Learn how to guide students towards healthy alignment, using anatomical language that is easy for students to grasp, feel and integrate.
- Gain confidence speaking and demonstrating anatomy-based instruction for students in a small group setting.
We'll spend time looking at student models in the most popularly taught poses, talking about joint actions, muscle groups being strengthened/stretched, etc. We'll explore how to see what's happening in students' bodies from an anatomical perspective. Class time will also include working in small groups so that each participant gains experience seeing students and teaching alignment from this anatomical perspective.
This series is intended for yoga teachers and intermediate students who want to understand more about the intersection of asana practice and anatomy. Preparatory assignments for classes will require the use of "Netter's Anatomy Coloring Book" and "Light on Yoga." Homework will follow after each class, along with an optional quiz.
